Speaker: Theresa Rutherford,President & CEO
HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital
Theresa Rutherford currently serves as President and CEO of HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital. As President and CEO, Theresa is responsible for all aspects of planning, operations, and financial management of the hospital. Theresa joined St. Anthony’s in 2013, after serving several years as Chief Operating Officer at HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
In her time at St. Anthony’s, Theresa has successfully led the hospital in advancing technology, enhancing quality, increasing colleague engagement, improving the patient experience, and reflecting transparency with community members. Under her leadership, St. Anthony’s began offering robotic orthopedic surgery, the only hospital in the area with this revolutionary technology. She has also led the hospital in receiving state and national accolades for offering advanced quality to patients – being named a 2015 Bronze Award winner for Commitment to Excellence from Illinois Performance Excellence, as well as receiving The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for certification of the hospital’s Joint Replacement Program. Theresa also led the launch of St. Anthony’s “I Promise” service philosophy, where the patient-centered goals of the team complement the patient-focused objectives of every individual colleague, physician and volunteer. Through this program, Theresa met with each and every colleague as they committed to their “Promise,” reflecting the openness she shares with the staff. Theresa has also demonstrated open communication with area residents, offering Community Town Halls and launching an “Ask Theresa” communication initiative on the hospital’s Web site.
During her tenure at St. Mary’s, Theresa worked closely with the President and CEO in leading the St. Mary’s Campus Redesign of a new Lobby, ER, and Lab, as well as playing a key role with the relocation of all Prairie Cardiovascular’s Decatur services to the St. Mary’s campus. Under her leadership, St. Mary’s Hospital twice received the Bronze Lincoln Award for Quality. Throughout her career, Theresa held several positions at hospitals in Illinois and Iowa including Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Galesburg Cottage Hospital in Galesburg and The Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa.
